Bus Passed 93% Smoke Test without Repairs
On 18 Mar 2015, this bus failed the Malaysian commercial vehicle inspection with 93% on the smoke test.
One day before the commercial vehicle inspection appointment day, the bus applied 100ml of ORGANIC FUEL ADDITIVE into its fuel tank, and on dry-run for 30 minutes.
On 27 Mar 2015, the bus passed the inspection with 42% on the smoke test. Without any repairs or adjustment to the engine parts.
Smoke test standards applied to Diesel & Petrol engines by PUSPAKOM Malaysia
As a reference, to obtain the approval,
- Diesel engine, below 50%
- Petrol engine, made before 1997, CO below 4.5%, HC below 800ppm
- Petrol engine, made after 1997, CO below 3.5%, HC below 600ppm
Reasons for failing in the smoke test,
- Combustion is not perfect
- Engine and other components are not well maintained
- Clogged air filter
- Engine camshafts are worn
- Diesel fuel pump damage
- Dirty or clogged oil filter
- Fuel nozzle is clogged
- Low pressure in the combustion chamber of the engine
