On 18 Mar 2015, this bus failed the Malaysian commercial vehicle inspection with 93% on the smoke test.

One day before the commercial vehicle inspection appointment day, the bus applied 100ml of ORGANIC FUEL ADDITIVE into its fuel tank, and on dry-run for 30 minutes.

On 27 Mar 2015, the bus passed the inspection with 42% on the smoke test. Without any repairs or adjustment to the engine parts.

As a reference, to obtain the approval,

  • Diesel engine, below 50%
  • Petrol engine, made before 1997, CO below 4.5%, HC below 800ppm
  • Petrol engine, made after 1997, CO below 3.5%, HC below 600ppm

Reasons for failing in the smoke test,

  • Combustion is not perfect
  • Engine and other components are not well maintained
  • Clogged air filter
  • Engine camshafts are worn
  • Diesel fuel pump damage
  • Dirty or clogged oil filter
  • Fuel nozzle is clogged
  • Low pressure in the combustion chamber of the engine
